The ARV 106 is a true all condition freestyle ski. The sidewall construction makes them more resistant to damage and better at absorbing high-speed chatter. The Poplar Ash core blends lighter and denser woods for an ultra-playful and responsive ride; ash stringers increase pop. AR Freestyle Rocker uses rocker at the tip and tail with low camber underfoot for stable handling and good grip. Armada aren't known for using metal in their constructions preferring more playful characteristics to shine, but with the Declivity range they are changing that very successfully. Thanks to a clever build using Titanal with cut-out sections, the 92 Ti has the performance on hard snow which doesn't affect the handling in soft conditions. Precision carves can be locked down but, because it isn't as stiff as other skis with metal, it keeps that playful feel, helping make this one of the best all mountain skis we've ridden.Terrain Type & Ability LevelTerrain Type All mountain, so everything from pistes to powder, bumps, trees and steeps. It has qualities that make it shine in all the conditions. Grip, precision and energy on firmer snow; float and smoothness in soft snow; stability and balance for mixed terrain and variable conditions. Yes, it is that good. At 92 it favours firmer snow and mixed conditions, though it will easily handle fresh snow. If powder is your main aim then its bigger brother, the 102, is the model to look at with its extra float, but you will lose some of the nimbleness that makes the 92 so special.Skier TypeThe fact that ski feels so good means it has a very broad appeal. Intermediates will enjoy the balance and the smooth predictable handling, giving them confidence to explore and push their limits. Advanced skiers will value the same attributes as well as appreciating the grip and precision when skiing faster and trickier terrain. Lighter experts will also enjoy the ski as it has everything they want, without requiring tonnes of power to drive it.OverviewShapeThis is a modern all mountain ski so the width hits the sweet spot of 90-94mm. Still quick edge to edge and retaining the float. The tip has plenty of taper as it blends into the widest part of the ski, providing a smooth initiation, helped by the rocker and clever Articulated Titanal Banding tech (more below). No skier has revolutionized freestyle skiing more in the last decade then Henrik Harlaut and his signature ski, the edollo, continues to support him every step of the way. It's built for nose-pressing and confidence in the park. 2.5 Impact edges are oversized and specially heat-treated to resist damage; the Comp Series Base is Armada's fastest, boosting confidence on kickers when you know the ski is going to glide well. AR Nose Rocker uses traditional camber underfoot for grip and edge hold, with rocker at the nose for pressing and better turn initiation. Having camber into the tail improves the versatility of the ski and makes it one of the very best pure freestyle skis when outside of the park. AR75 Sidewall construction means full length sidewall for the best grip, whether in the park or skiing the rest of the mountain. The wide platform is ideal for stomping landings and locking onto rails, and helps ensure it skis the rest of the mountain equally well.Terrain Type & Ability LevelTerrain Type It's an amazing park ski but, thanks to the shape and camber, it's surprisingly good when skiing all mountain too. The flex is soft so it does have a speed limit in terms of grip on hard snow but that isn't what this ski is about anywaySkier TypeSkiers who want a soft playful flexing ski to press, butter and hit jumps and jibs. Definitely one for the park skiers, but that doesn't mean you have to stay in the park, it's more about the style and the way ski flexes and what you'll do with it. The soft nose means easy presses and the balanced flex through the centre and tail means smooth butters.OverviewShape98mm in the waist and the 20m radius (172cm) ensures good stability on rails and jumps, as well as making the ski ride well when out of the park. The tip and tail are quite short compared to many skis on the market, but this works well with the camber, nose rocker and soft flex.RockerAR Nose Rocker uses a traditional sidecut paired with tip rocker and standard camber for easier turn initiation without compromising edge hold. The low tip rocker and plenty of camber is matched with a soft flex, especially on the tip, giving the ski a fairly unique position amongst park skis making it standout.CoreArmada's Poplar Ash Core uses lightweight poplar combined with higher density full-length ash stringers to create an impossibly lively ski that has all the power needed for boosting to new elevations.ConstructionThe AR75 Sidewall uses semi-cap sidewall along the majority of the ski with a full cap at the tip and tails. This combination helps absorb high speed chatter and impacts from jibs. A Laminate Matrix lay-up uses a directional layering of fibreglass that dictates the flex pattern and torsional rigidity to create the ultimate in quick response, forgiveness and liveliness.Key FeaturesComp BaseSintered UHMW polyethylene with added carbon aids in speed and durability on snow.2.2 Impact edgeHeat treated and built to avoid excess weight while maintain durability, this edge gives the best balance of durability and feel of the whole Armada collection.eB tester's comments: Mark (Trainer) Not your average twin tip. A little more shape and set back than most park skis, which makes for a great all mountain ski. For Armada, doing things differently has always been a core value and the Stranger is the latest example of this. The goal was straightforward. Build a 15m radius ski that can tackle groomers with friends, carve hard, trick around on and just have a good time. At 100mm underfoot, featuring a straight tapered edgeless butterzone in the tip and a rockered Springboard tail for endless wheelies and extra pop, the all new Stranger merges carving with freestyle and freeride attributes.Terrain Type & Ability LevelTerrain Type This is a blend of piste, all mountain, freeride and freestyle. It will carve on pistes and pop out of turns, It has the width to float if things get softer or deeper and it has the handling to be comfortable on any terrain. There's no metal so it isn't ultra stiff or precise, but what stiff skis can ollie or wheelie like a Stranger? It's a wide playful piste ski that loves to turn and it's a turny directional freestyle ski. It's what you make it.Skier TypeSkiers who want to have fun “ slashing, carving, popping, in any condition that the average resort throws up. Ability is less of factor, mindset is the key. It's just about having fun.OverviewShapeA long tapered nose combines rocker and an edgeless tip to produce smooth turn initiation and unflappable handling. It might be 100mm in the waist but the radius is still 15m so it will happily push out tight linked carves. It's aided by the springboard tail for extra energy and pop. The tips and tails are actually firmer than the middle section, helping the ski grip in and out of turn, with softness in the centre meaning it's easy to switch turn size and mix it up.RockerAR Freestyle Rocker uses rockered tips and tails combined with positive camber underfoot to allow the ski to charge with ease through unpredictable snow and maintain a solid carve when asked to do so.CoreArmada's Poplar Ash Core uses lightweight poplar combined with higher density full-length ash stringers to create an impossibly lively ski that has all the power needed for boosting.ConstructionAR75 Sidewalls use a blend of sidewall and cap for the right mix of precision, forgiveness and durability. Its shape works especially well with the build to create a ski that is responsive on piste, but stable and forgiving off.RockereST Freeride Rocker uses fore body rocker combined with extra tip taper for optimised float in the soft snow. Positive camber underfoot with no tail rocker ensures the ski stays on rails when carving.CoreArmada's Caruba Core is their lightest core but retains the power and dampness required to descend the gnarliest of terrain. It uses caruba, a wood that is lighter than poplar without losing energy or durability. This is reinforced with Titanal in a build called Articulated Titanal Banding, improving the power and, unlike regular metal sheets, doesn't over-stiffen the ski.ConstructionWith AR100 Sidewalls Armada are using full length vertical sidewalls, something they hadn't done for while before the Declivity. This construction improves precision and edge hold.Key FeaturesArticulated Titanal BandingTitanal adds horsepower to the ski with uncompromising performance, acting as a shock absorber and quietening chatter to give unparalleled stability and confidence at speed. To make sure this doesn't over-stiffen the ski and make steering difficult it has vertical cut-outs at the tip and tail. These are filled with an elastic Compound Layer that allows the ski to enter the turn with ease during the turn this compound compresses so that the Articulated Titanal Banding releases more energy than a traditional Ti layer.2.5 Impact edgeOversized and specially heat treated, this edge is built to resist impact damage in the most demanding situations.Comp Series BaseSintered UHMW polyethylene with added carbon, aids speed and durability.eB tester’s comments: Luke (Buying Team) I used them in mixed conditions, they gripped on hardpack and the nose shape worked really well through the soft spring snow. Armada Locator 96 is an all-terrain ski that expertly walks the fine line of lightweight and performance, equally capable of fast, smooth turns in fresh pow as it is biting hard snow and jumping turns down tight couloirs. The caruba wood core has the uphill feel that you demand and the power needed for descending when the conditions are trickier. AR75 Sidewall enhances this with sidewall underfoot for grip and precision, and cap at the tip and tail to save weight. The Declivity 102 Ti has found a sweet spot in terms of mixing high-performance with playfulness and ease of use, a very rare thing. It's the result of Articulated Titanal Banding. The lightweight caruba core is reinforced with Titanal which, at the tip and tail, has vertical cut-outs where the metal is replaced by an elastic Compound Layer. This adds precision and stability as well as bringing a smooth energy to turns. As stable as the stiff 100mm skis that are on the market, and as fun and easy as the non-metal versions, it won't disappoint anywhere.Terrain Type & Ability LevelTerrain Type everything you are going to find off piste (and it will still ski groomed trails). It has the grip to ski and attack harder snow, the stability to fly over rough terrain and the width and shape to flow through fresh conditions when you find them. It's a proper all condition wide ski.Skier TypeSuits freeriders and all mountain skiers who want a ski with grip and precision that can be pushed but isn't demanding to ski. It's a rare combination but Armada have achieved it. All skiers who know they want a 100mm or thereabouts ski will get something from it, whether they are new to this width and still working on technique and are finding new terrain to ski, or whether they're already skilled and experienced but are tired of the trade off between stiff high-performance models and softer, less demanding ones. The 102 finds that balance for grip and precision with stability, smoothness and ease of use.OverviewShapeIt's obviously 10mm wider than the 92 Ti version but it also has slightly more taper at the tip and tail. This longer transition to the widest points on the ski gives it better stability away from pistes, with more predictable handling. It's also got slightly less sidecut than it's narrower brother again adding to the stability.RockereST Freeride Rocker uses fore body rocker combined with extra tip taper for optimised float in the soft snow. A radius of 22m in the 178cm boosts the stability required to ski any terrain. Lots of tip taper works with the nose rocker for easy handling; the flatter, longer tail improves the edge grip.RockereST Freeride Rocker. Forebody rocker and extra tip taper combine for optimized float in the soft stuff. Positive camber under foot with no tail rocker ensures edge hold so skis stay on rails when carving is the priority.CoreCaruba core. Armada’s lightest wood core material creates the best uphill feel while retaining the power and damping characteristics required for descending the gnarliest terrain. This core makes no performance concessions in its quest to be ultra-light.ConstructionAR75 Sidewall. Sidewall on 75% of the ski to allow for weight savings on tip and tail while maintaining rigidity and drive in the prime zone. Below the binding, a sandwich of rubber and Titanal works to reduce vibration that otherwise chatters into your boots and shortens your day. A carbon reinforcement is used to provide excellent energy rebound.Key FeaturesS7 BaseA sintered base optimized for speed, durability and wax retention.1.7 Lightweight edgeeB tester’s comments: Simon (Fort William) These were super fun in powder and had a user-friendly level of stiffness that help to provide punch through cruddy conditions and lots of edge hold when needed. They’re a great option for adventurous ski tourers looking to spend more time searching for softer deeper snow.Size (cm)Tip Width (mm)Waist Width (mm)Tail Width (mm)Radius (m)Weight (g)1701301041212117813110412222142518613210412323General InformationSkier Ability: Advanced|expertRocker: Tip RockerRadius: LongBase: SinteredBindings: Ski sold flatDIN: n/aConstruction: Semi SidewallCore: Wood, Carbon, Titanal LaminateDemo: NoSizing Description: Forehead to over head height. Based on the ever favourite JJ, this ARV 116 JJ UL version benefits from work in Armada Zero lab to shave weight and make it a serious player in the BC category if you want to tour to reach the goods. The Caruba core creates a lower swing weight yet retains the smooth, surfy feel that the JJ known. The width, shape that creates the long nose and tail, and the use of the Smear Tech ensure maximum float and the smoothest turns in soft snow. All done with a unique freestyle feel that other wide skis often miss. Super limited availability and we've only managed to get hold of a few, so don't hang around.Terrain Type & Ability LevelTerrain Type You can take it anywhere but it's natural environment is powder. It'll run some laps in the park and the shape/flex/rocker lends itself to presses and butters, it'll even crank out some GS turns on the piste, but the flex is geared for fresh snow. Being so light it is a realistic option for some more serious BC action and longer tours.Skier TypeIt's one for skiers looking for a freestyle feel, but with the width for powder days. The UL construction of the Zero project means it's ideal to mount up with a Shift or similar and take it for some tours to hunt the best stashes. In this guise, it pretty much has its own place in the market.OverviewShapeBased on the original and much-loved JJ shape. The monster 116mm waist has a surprisingly short radius at 18m in a 185cm. This is achieved by having super-long noses and tails, with the widest points set well back from the tips and tails, giving the ski the smoothest turns in soft snow.RockerAR Freestyle Rocker. Rockered tips and tails are combined with positive camber under foot to allow the ski to charge with ease through unpredictable snow and maintain a solid carve when asked to do so. I thought they'd be sluggish and tiring, yet they're easy to pivot and turn plus light and playful under foot. I'm not suggesting they're a one quiver ski, but if you want a powder ski that is fun going from a to b too, this is the one.
