Elisabeth, Rethymno

We have just come back from staying at Camp Elisabeth, the owner could not do enough for us giving us a fan and sunbeds to take on the beach also an umbrella which we needed as it was very hot She also let us stay till evening as our plane did not go till early morning saving us lugging rucksacks around allday in the heat. Highly recommend a visit

Found this site with a mate by accident in 1999. It was so good we stayed for the rest of the holiday. And came back the next year with more friends. Right next to the beach so you can roll out of bed right into the sea (great hangover cure!) Taverna open every night with outside seating, a great opportunity to meet other people if you wish.
There are better beaches in Crete but there are much worse, it isn't too busy and you get great sun sets. Tops. I'm going again for two weeks tomorrow.

I stayed at this campsite for 4 months in 1994 and revisited in 2001, the owner, Elisabeth still remembered me. The camp has two shower blocks either side on roads that run to the beach with connecting roads along them from the reception. The whole area is divided by stands of cane and low trees that provide plenty of shade. Next to the beach there is a small shop behind a large taverna/shop with plentiful seating around and a bar-b-cue every Thursday. You buy the food in the taverna and cook it on a big grill on the beach.
The reception has safe deposit boxes and boxes for mail so if you are long stay you can stay in touch. It is not cheap but you will make a lot of friends there.
