Robin Hood Caravan & Camping Park, York

We have recently stayed at Robin Hood Caravan Park, Slingsby over the May Day Bank Holiday and had a really enjoyable visit. We arrived on Friday afternoon and were warmly welcomed on to site. The reception and shop are in the same building. It is quite small but we found that it had everything that we needed (including camping gaz, tent pegs and tin openers – everything we forgot) and all was well priced. There is a free facility within the shop to freeze ice blocks.

The toilet block is really well looked after. Really clean and obviously checked quite regularly. Soap and Shampoo is provided in case you have forgotten that. The sinks are within private cubicles that I found really useful for washing the kids. There is a disabled toilet onsite that also has baby changing facilities within it (including baby bath and toiletries). Hairdryers can be found within the toilet blocks.

Site fees were ok. There were 4 of us in the tent costing £10 per night. There were no hidden extras. The site also takes touring caravans (20), motor homes and there are static caravans for rent (35). There were also some very nice caravans for sale.

There is a small play area within the tent sites. We found this good as we could sit outside the tent and still watch the kids playing. There was a big field behind the tent site which we played cricket in and flew our kites.

Other facilities included a laundry (with domestic washing machines, tumbler dryers and iron), payphone.

The park is in an ideal location. On Friday evening we went for a walk around the village and had a drink in the village pub. On Saturday we went to Flamingoland for the day and also called into Pickering to see the steam trains. They go to Goathland, which was the setting for Heartbeat and Hogwarts Express (Harry Potter). Sunday was spent in York just wandering around the Minster and along the river. It’s also great for shopping. We stayed in the village all day Monday as there was so much going on. There was a car boot in the morning. Then in the afternoon we went to the village green to watch Maypole dancing, Morris Dancers and an aerobatic show. There were lots of little stalls with games for kids, cake stalls, craft stalls and a BBQ. The school also held a scarecrow competition so a lot of the villages had built scarecrows.

We’ll definitely go again as there is so much in the surrounding area we didn’t get to see.
