Camping El Frontal Reviews

Camping El Frontal

This is my family´s experience of EL FRONTAL campsite, in the Spanish province of Soria.
The campsite lies in the middle of a beautiful old pine forest, next to a large reservoir, LA CUERDA DEL POZO.This reservoir has a very indented coastline and is completely surrounded by pine and oak forests. You wouldn´t tell it´s an artifical lake. The campsite itself is very natural looking and very shady. At a nearby public beach you can hire rowing boats, canoes and windsurf boards. It´s an extremely quiet and "off the beaten track" place. As the place lies on the Castillian high-plateau, at about 1000 metres above sea-level and very near the high mountains of the SIERRA DE URBION, the temperatures are more likely to be low for Spanish summer standards. Even in the middle of July or August it can get quite cold during the night.
There are lots of interesting places to visit within an hour´s car drive or so: the spring of the great river Tagus ("Tajo" in Spanish)in the mountains to the North, the beautiful and misterious LAGUNA NEGRA (Black Lagoon), the impressive CAÑON DEL RIO LOBOS (Wolf River Canyon)to the south, the historical mediaeval town of EL BURGO DE OSMA, the capital city, SORIA, to the east, a natural park with petrified dinosaur footprints to the norhteast, and many more.
Soria clearly lies off the main tourist routes, so most campers are Spanish, especially from the North of the country and from Madrid.
If you like extensive lonely countryside, clean water and pure fresh air, this is your place!
